ERA Attachments
The ERA attachment is
probably one of the best choices for use with dental implants. The entire attachment
apparatus consists of a nylon male that is housed in the overdenture and a titanium
female which is inserted into the implant. The females are made to fit most
common implant systems. The picture above shows the five male attachments. The
Black male is for processing and the four colored males are exhibit varying
degrees of retention with white being the least retentive and gray being the
most retentive.
The black male attachment
is designed to provide 0.4mm of resilience in the system. It also established
the retentive element of the attachment in the overdenture. The black male is
seated on the implant abutment female and picked up in acrylic resin in the
overdenture. The acrylic resin will form a negative of the retentive flange
on the outside perimeter of the black male. When the black male is removed from
the overdenture by use of the coring bur, the undisturbed acrylic resin acts
as a retentive seat for all future male attachments.
The white male is the
first retentive attachment to be used. It's outer flange will snap into the
acrylic resin housing and keep the attachment in place. The attachment functions
by virtue of the internal male component which fits tightly into the female
implant abutment but yet allows rotation in 360°.
The ERA Implant Abutment
is the female component of the system. The abutment comes in various heights
and fits several popular implant systems. The retentive area of the titanium
abutment is coated with titanium nitrite to improve wear so that the females
significantly outlast the nylon males.
There are three inexpensive
tools used with this system:
- The straight handpiece
coring drill
- The abutment insertion
wrench
- The male insertion
tool
In the completed restoration,
the black processing males are picked up in the overdenture. They are then cored
out with the coring drill and the white males are inserted with the insertion
tool. For more information, contact APM-Sterngold
