| I placed two implants
in the second bicuspid-first molar area in a single stage procedure. The
radiograph at the left shows the implants three months after placement.
Note the entire collar of the implant, about 2.0mm is above the crest
of the bone. The radiograph on the right shows the implants one year after
loading. There is essentially no change in bone height around the implants
except for a possible improvement on the mesial of the first implant.
This is what I see pretty consistently these days.... These are Imtec implants. I like them because the head of the implant is tapered rather than stepped as in the traditional Brånemark design. And, yes, if I were to do this one over, I would have moved that distal implant back a little more. Not my greatest placement, but what can you expect from a prosthodontist... (---) |

| The radiograph on the left
was taken shortly after second stage surgery to check the fit of the standard
abutments. You can see that the abutments were not all the way seated.
the implants were placed below the crest of bone as Dr. Brånemark
had originally specified. The bone is actually interfering a bit with
the seating and I had to remove some bone from around the top of the implant
to seat the abutment. These implants are in the mesial and distal root
areas of the first molar. Four years later, we can see a slight bone migration to the first thread area. Perhaps even less than one would anticipate, but it is still changed from the original position. Patient is a 79 year old male. There was also an implant in the first bicuspid spot and this area was restored with a four unit fixed partial denture. I have this entire treatment on my site. |
