This is the first year that this program is available so I just wanted to bring everyone up to date on the surgical residency program... We are about half way through the first year of the program and we have already had two of the participants successfully place their first implants.

The group meets once a month for a two hour lecture covering all phases of implant surgery, but the emphasis on the clinical work is the placement of implants in the anterior mandible. Each participant has the chance to observe at least 3 different surgeries in my office and they can all bring in their own patient and do the surgery with my supervision.

I think that the general consensus is that this program really works! It is difficult at best to find any source of good implant surgical training. Most of the available courses are either long term commitments or excessively expensive, but right here in Boca, you can get what I feel is the very best training available at certainly the most reasonable cost: $550.00.

One of the most confusing aspects of implant prosthodontics is choosing an appropriate implant abutment. It often seems that there are so many conflicting choices and with each manufacturer hawking their own particular products, it becomes increasingly difficult to make the right choice.

My recommendation is to just keep it simple ala the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid). As you get more experience, you can always add abutments to your armamentarium and expand your choices, but when starting out, it's a good idea to limit the number of choices. So, on the next two pages are listed some of my recommendations for the most basic of implant abutments. Page four has recommended manufacturers (My personal preferences biased as they are) for securing these components and I'm always available for individual help in this area...  SRD
