| I recently saw this
79 year old female who had gone for dental implants in the anterior mandible
about 6 months prior. Her story was that she presented to the oral surgeon
for the procedure. He was to place three implants in the anterior mandible
for the purpose of supporting an overdenture. He started the surgery and
after he opened her up there was a significant wait. He then informed
the patient and her daughter that there was not enough bone for the procedure
and closed her up and sent her out the door. Both the patient and the
daughter felt that the dentist was waiting for some equipment which did
not arrive on time. The radiograph on the left above is the pre-operative Panorex taken by the oral surgeon. It was a very poor radiograph and I really had to use all of my digital skills just to get the image above on the net. My post-op Panorex which was taken at the time of second stage surgery shows three 10mm IMTEC implants nicely integrated with room to go even a little longer if I had wanted to. When I did the surgery, I found no reason what so ever to abort the surgery. There was plenty of bone in both height and width and the density was excellent. The patient is now having her prosthesis made and I do not anticipate any problems. |
