Molten titanium is sprayed onto the surface of a machined implant to increase the surface area of the implant promoting initial stability and osseointegration.

Increased surface area and roughness definitely adds to mechanical stabilization of the implant and may ultimately improve osseointegration.

There may be a high degree of variability in the process.
